MTCIA Will Answer State’s Appeal of Reynolds’ Ruling
The state of Montana is appealing Judge Reynolds’ temporary injunction against portions of the medical marijuana law. The timing is such that we’d be entering those deliberations in October or November. The state is lining it up, ready to be in place should we fail to get the signatures needed to suspend the law. If the number of signatures to suspend the law do get secured, it’s unlikely the state’s appeal would go forward. After all, how many times can elected officials or their offices slap down the will of the citizens without consequence?
The MTCIA has voted to give our attorney the go-ahead in regards to responding to the appeal. However, our outstanding bill with the Goetz law firm is over $60,000. We are working this weekend on how to manage the competing demands before us. More on how we can move forward on all fronts – the appeal, the referendum – tomorrow.
Belated thanks to those in Bozeman who organized last Friday’s fundraiser. Thanks to Misty Cary, Erin Bell, John Radick, Dante Bonanini and all the bands. Congradulations to The Bonnie Situation, the battle of bands’ winner. Thanks, too, to those turning out for our community meetings at this important juncture.
Next community meeting:
Kalispell:
Monday, August 15, 7 pm – 9 pm
Red Lion Inn, 20 North Main St.
Also – Ed Docter, MTCIA president, will be serving on a panel at Hempstock in Seattle next weekend, telling Montana’s story to a crowd in the hundreds of thousands. Let’s wish him well.
