MTCIA Encourages Participation at Two Upcoming Conferences

Mark your calendars for two upcoming conferences. One takes place here in Montana and one in L.A.

The Wheeler Conference takes place on Monday evening and Tuesday, September 19 and 20. The Burton K. Wheeler Center for Public Policy in Bozeman, MT, promotes the discussion, analysis and eventual resolution of critical issues facing Montana and the region. The Center holds two conferences annually. The topic of their upcoming conference is medical cannabis.

The conference, “Medical Marijuana: Thoughtful Questions, Responsible Answers”, will be held at the Red Lion Colonial in Helena. The cost for the conference is $35.00 and includes breakfast and lunch on the 20th. Their objective is to provide the opportunity for Montanans to thoroughly and publicly discuss this critical statewide issue, which is sure to be back on the table in the 2013 legislative session.

The MTCIA is offering to cover the registration cost of the conference ($35) for up to 10 MTCIA members. If you have submitted your paperwork for membership and would like to attend the Wheeler conference this coming Monday and Tuesday, be one of the first 10 members to contact us (kate@mticia.org) and we will cover your registration fee.

It is encouraging to see that citizens and organizations are recognizing the need for conversation on this pressing issue.

The second conference is sponsored by the Drug Policy Alliance (DPA), the nation’s leading organization promoting alternatives to the drug war that are grounded in science, compassion, health and human rights.

The 2011 Reform Conference is taking place in Los Angeles, California from Wednesday, November 2 through Saturday, November 5 at The Westin Bonaventure.

“The International Drug Policy Reform Conference is a biennial event that brings together people from around the world who believe that the war on drugs is doing more harm than good. It brings together over 1,000 attendees representing 30 different countries.

This year attendees will have the opportunity to spend three days interacting with people committed to finding alternatives to the war on drugs while participating in sessions given by leading experts from around the world. Don’t miss the opportunity to be a part of this event.”

The MTCIA encourages you attend this event to network and share the Montana story. We are able to offer a registration discount for members. Please contact us (kate@mtcia.org) by September 16 if you are a member who plans to attend.

Current rates are:

$150 for hotel
$285 for registration if you register through the MTCIA ($340 online)

Registration rates will go up after the 16th. Sorry for the short timeline.

Take advantage if you can of these opportunities to both teach and learn.
